Love in the time of cutting molars
The baby has started the sweetest little ritual. When his bath is done, and he has hollered "Buy Buy!" at the last of the bathwater and the "'nado" going down the drain, I pick him up and wrap him in the enormous sky-colored bath sheet from Restoration Hardware. He likes to look at himself in the round mirror over the toilet while I dry his hair, and mugs and gesticulates, usually ignoring brick-&-mortar me in favor of Mirror Mommy.
Well the last few days he has been turning to me, looking deeply into my eyes (glasses OFF!), and putting his little palms on my cheeks. "Mommy," he intones sotto voce, turning my head slightly back and forth. "Mommy. Tofft," stroking my cheeks. "Mommy tofft." Then he leans in close, lisps "Kithh," and then ever so unbelievably, rests his little lips against mine while *closing his eyes* !!
All this is rivaled only by the other evening in his high chair near his daddy, when he leaned to the side to get my attention across the room and said with a sweet smile, "Mommy. Loff. Loff mommy."
Well, I'm in love too. He may insist on sleeping with his father, thus kicking me out of our bed, but he makes up for it with me.
