Summah's over

We do a lot of seasonal talk, activity, etc. in our family. "Autumn is coming; summer is aaaaallmost over," has been our mantra for 3 weeks. Yesterday the leaves were falling, the rain was too, it was chilly enough for a little jacket. "Autumn is here, baby!" I told the child. This made him happy, saying, "Wintah comes NEXT. And in the wintah it's goeen to be CWISSMAS." Until he asked, "Where'd summah go?"

"Summer's over, baby. Now autumn is here!"

Blink, think, lip starts to quiver. "You want summah back," he mourns. "You want summah t'come back."

Fortunately, today is hot and sunny, with no hint of autumn. Oh, the grief of a baby.
